Recitation 255

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم
ألسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Dear Quran Lovers,
Let us continue to recite surah 2 Al-Baqoroh (synopsis of Islam). Please refer to the text:
(102.2) وَمَا هُم بِضَآرِّينَ بِهِى مِن أَحَدٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اُللهِ ج وَيَتَعَلَّمُونَ مَا يَضُرُّهُمْ وَلَا يَنفَعُهُمْ ج
وَمَا هُم بِضَآرِّينَ بِهِى مِن أَحَدٍ إِلَّا بِإِذَنِ اُللهِ = "Wa Ma~ Hum~Bi DHo~~~r-(a Madd Lazim Kalimi Muthaqqol/irrevocable heavy Word = 6 harakat)-ri~na Bi Hi~ Min A-ha-din Il-la~ Bi Idz-nil-La~h". "Wa" = And, "Ma~" = not, "Hum" = they, "Bi" = with, "DHo~~~r-ri~na" = they harm, "Bi Hi~" = by it, "Min" = from, of, "A-ha-din" = anyone, "Il-la~" = except, "Bi" = with, by, "Idz-ni" = permission, "Al-Lahi" = Allah.
"Wa Ma~ Hum~Bi DHo~~~r-ri~na Bi Hi~ Min A-ha-din Il-la~ Bi Idz-nil-La~h". = But they/the witchcraft did/could not harm any- one except by Allah's permission.
ج = a Waqof Jaiz sign.
وَيَتَعَلَمُونَ مَا يَضُرُّهُمْ وَلَا يَنفَعُهُمْ = "Wa Ya-ta-'al-la-mu~na Ma~ Ya-dhur-ru Hum Wa La~ Yanf~fa-'u Hum". "Wa" = And, "Ya-ta-'al-la-mu~na" = they learn, "Ma~" = what, "Ya-dhur-ru" = harm them, "Wa" = and, "La~" = no, "Yanf~fa-'u" = benefitial, "Hum" = them.
"Wa Ya-ta-'al-la-mu~na Ma~ Ya-dhur-ru Hum Wa La~ Yanf~fa-'u Hum". = And they learnt things that harmed them and also things that were not benefitial to them.
(In other words, Allah tells us not to believe in witchcraft because they will not and they cannot bring harm to anyone except with and by Allah's permission.
[Through personal experience, even a person uses verses or a surah of the Quran and the person is well versed the the Quran and Hadith but he/she used it to harm innocent people, it is still witchcraft because, Allah would never allow innocent people be harmed or be "Zholim"/wronged. Thus, no Angel nor Waliyu Allah/friend of Allah is involved, but a Satan would take his a.s/ rh.a. place].
(to be continued).
                            oooo000oooo
Let us now continue to look into the Basic Islamic Rules:
   (2) Solat:  (G) Performing Solat By A Traveller:
   (i) The Distance A Solat Qoshor May Be Performed:
Yaala ibnu Umayyah reported, "I have asked Umar ibnu Khottob, "I saw many people are still performing shortened Solat while Allah says in surah An-Nisaa verse 101, "When you travel through the earth, it is no sin for you to shorten your Solat if you fear the Unbelievers might attack you", but the feeling of fear is no more". Umar replied, " I had the same puzzle and I have asked the Prophet s.a.w. who replied, "It/the Qodhor is a Shodaqoh/contribution made by Allah to all of you/travellers. So accept it". (narrated by Jammah).
From this report, it is understood that when on a journey, far or near, it is permitted to shorten/Qoshor the Solat, and also to "Jamaa"/ bring together 2 Solat, and need not fast (during the fasting month of Ramadan).
There is not one Hadith mentioning the limit of the journey. Ibnu Mundzir and other Ulama had mentioned twenty opinions about this. We /Asy-Syeikh As-Said Sabiq shall mention the strongest opinion concerning it:
Ahmad, Muslim, Abu Daud and Baihaqi had narrated from Yahya ibnu Yazid who said, "I asked Anas bin Malik about the shortening of Solat. He said, "The Prophet s.a.w. had performed Solat 2 Rokaat when he s.a.w. was on a journey 3 miles or "Far-sakh" = (3 and a quarter miles to be exact)".
About the distance, the mile and the farsakh, can be explained by the Hadith reported by Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri, "When the Prophet s.a.w. went on a journey a distance of one farsakh, he s.a.w. Qoshor/shortened his s.a.w. Solat". (narrated by Sa'id ibnu Manshur and is mentioned in the book At-Talkhish by Al-Hafizh).
As it is known that one Farsakh is three miles, thus, the Hadith reported by Abu As'id has confirmed the Hadith reported by Anas. Thus, the shortest distance of a journey made that enable us to Qoshor a solat is three miles. And one Farsakh is 5.541 meters, while one mile is 1.748 meters.
The Opinion of Some Imam that the minimum distance is  two or three Marhalah/a day's journey: (to be continued).
Until we meet again in the next session, see you all Quran Lovers later.
والسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Abdul Hamid Mohd Yusof.
