Let us now continue to look into the Basic Islamic Rules:
 (2) Solat: (iii) To Stand Upright In Solat Fardhu:
The Quran rules that standing upright in Solat (fardu) is Wajib/obligatory. It is based on surah 2 Al-Baqoroh verse  238, "Maintain your solat, and the middle solat/'Ashor, and stand up with devotion before/in front of Allah".
Sunnah/precept of the Prophet s.a.w. and Ij-timaa/consensus rule that it is Wajib on those who are able to stand upright in the solat.
From 'Imron ibnu Hushain who said, "I have piles/haemorrhoids. I asked the Prophet s.a.w. about solat. He s.a.w. replied, "Stand upright when solat. If your are not able to do so, then perform it while sitting down, and it you are unable to do so, perform it while lying down".
The Ulama have unanimously of the opinion that while standing upright, both feet should be apart.
Standing Upright In Solat Sunnah: (to be continued).

Dear Quran Lovers,
Let us continue to recite surah 2 Al-Baqoroh. Please refer to the text:
(19) أَوْكَصَيِّبٍ مِنَ اُلسَّمَآءِ فِيهِ ظُلُمَتٌ وَّرَعْدٌ وَبَرْقٌ يَجْعَلُونَ أَصَبِعَهُمْ فِى~ءَاذَانِهِم مِّنَ اُلصَّوَعِقِ حَذَرَ اُلْمَوْتِج وَاللهُ مُحِيطُم بِاُلْكَفِرِينَ
أَوْكَصَيِّبٍ مِنَ اُلسَّمَآءِ فِيهِ ظُلُمَتٌ وَّرَعْدٌ وَبَرْقٌ يَجْعَلُونَ أَصَبِعَهُمْ = "Aw Ka Shoi-yi-bim~Mi-nas-Sa-ma~~i Fi~ Hi ZHu-lu-ma~tuw~Wa Raa-duw~Wa Barr-quy~Yajj-'a-lu~na A-sho~bi-'a Hum", "Aw" = Or, "Ka" = like, "SHoi-yi-bin" = be struck, "Mi-na" = from, "as-Sa-ma~~i" = the heaven, sky, "Fi~ Hi" = in it, "ZHu-lu-ma~tun" = darkness, "Wa Roo-dun" = and thunder, "Wa Barr-qun" = and lightning, "Yajj-'a-lu~na" = they make, place, put, "A-sho~bi-'a" = fingers, "Hum" = their,
فِى~ءَاذَانِهِم مِّنَ اُلصَّوَعِقِ حَذَرَ اُلْمَوْتِ = "Fi~~ A~dza~ni Him~Mi-nash-SHo-wa~'i-qi Ha-dza-rol-Mau~t".  "Fi~" = into, "A~dza~ni" = ears, "Him" = their, "Mi-na" = from, for, "ash-SHo-wa~'i-qi" = the thunderbolt, "Ha-dza-ro" =  wary of, "al-Mau-ti" = the death.
"Aw Ka SHoi-yi-bim~Mi-nas-Sa-ma~~i Fi~ Hi ZHu-lu-ma~tuw~Wa Roo-duw~Wa Barr-quy~Yajj-'a-lu~na A-sho~bi-'a Hum Fi~~ A~dza~ni Him~Mi-nash-SHo-wa~'i-qi Ha-dza-rol-Mau~t" (a Madd 'Aridh Lis-Sukun/ transitory to cease = 4 harakat).  = Or (they, the hypocrites when hearing the teaching and the advice from the Quran are) like being struck (by heavy rain) from the heaven/sky where there is darkness and thunder and lightning that they place their fingers in their ears (refusing to listen to the Teaching from and the Advice given by the Quran as if) they are afraid of the thunderbolt and are wary of death (as the Advice, the Guidance and the Truth are unpleasant and are very difficult for them to accept. And the threat with painful and grievous torment set in the Quran are like that of the thunderbolt to them. And there is no other way to avoid hearing it/the threat but to put their fingers in their ears so that they will not hear it).
ج = a Waqof Jaiz/permissible pause sign.

(20) (to be continued).
                                  oooo000oooo
Let us continue to look into the Basic Islamic Rules:
 (2) Solat: Before we proceed further, let us look at what the Prophet s.a.w. said about how to perform a solat: (a) Bukhari narrated that the Prophet s.a.w. said, "Perform solat in like manner as I perform the solat". (b) From Ibnu Abbas r.a. who said, "The Prophet s.a.w. said, " The Archangel Gabriel a.s. had led me to solat twice, before/in front of the Caaba....." (narrated by Abu Daud and At-Tirmidzi). (c) From Abi Hurairah r.a. who said that the Prophet s.a.w. said, "When you are (about) to perform the solat, take wudhuu, then face towards the Qiblat, then (utter) Takbir = "Allohu Akbar", then recite whatever (verses of) the Quran that are easy for you to recite, Then rukuu, ... and so on and so forth". (narrated by the Seven).
(d)From Abdullah ibnu Ghonam who said (in his report which is a long Hadith, I cut it short and forward the important part for us to examine) that Abu Malik al-'Asy'ari had gathered his people and taught them how to perform solat as he had learnt personally from the Prophet s.a.w. (After gathering his people, he taught them how to take wudhuu, then when the time for solat had come, he stood up and exclaimed the Adzan/call to solat. Then he arranged them with men in the front line, the boys were placed behind the men, then the women behind the boys. Then exclaimed the Iqomah/raising to perform solat, then he stepped forward and raised his hands and exclaimed Takbir = "Allohu Akbar". After that he recited Al-Fatihah ... and so on and so forth." (narrated by Ahmad and Abu Jaala).
  (e) From Abu Hurairah r.a. said, "A man had entered into the mosque and performed solat. Then he went to the Prophet s.a.w. He made salam to the Prophet s.a.w. and was replied by the Prophet s.a.w. who then asked the man to reperform his solat because the man had not performed the solat correctly. The man obeyed, and performed the solat once again. And that happened three times. After the third time, he said to the Prophet s.a.w. that he did not know how and asked the Prophet s.a.w. to teach him. The Prophet s.a.w. said, "If you wanted to perform solat, utter the Takbir (Allohu Akbar), then recite verses of the Quran that you know, that is easy for you, then rukuu ... and so on and so forth". (narrated by Ahmad, Bukhari and Muslim).
[Note: Not one of these Hadith has mentioned about "Niyat" by the Prophet s.a.w. when he taught his followers to perform solat. However, the Four celebrated Imam had used Qias/analogy that other 'ibadah/religious rites, such as fasting, Hajj, 'Umrah and so forth require resolving the niyat. So, in solat, it is required to resolve niyat that the solat is perform because of Allah and to determine what solat it is performed, either it is a fardhu or a sunnah, either it is Shubuh, or Zhuhur and so forth. Thence, when the Imam had fixed or decided a Rule, in this case, that niyat is required, and it must be obeyed by all. Allah says in surah 4 An-Nisaa verse 59, "O believers! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger/Prophet and (obey) Ulil-Amri/those in Authority among you = the Imam". So, the Rule of Niyat must be obeyed.]
(iii) To Stand Upright In Solat Fardhu: (to be continued).

Recitation 176

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم
ألسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Dear Quran Lovers,
Let us continue to recite surah 2 Al-Baqoroh. Please refer to the text:
أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
(17) مَثَلُهُمْ كَمَثَلِ اُلَّذِى اُسْتَوْقَدَ نَارًا فَلَمَّآأَضَآءَتْ مَا حَوْلَهُوذَهَبَ اُللهُ بِنُورِهِمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِى ظُلُمَتِ لَّايُبْصِرُونَ
مَثَلُهُمْ كَمَثَل اُلَّذِى اُسْتَوْقَدَ نَارًا فَلَمَّآ أَضَآءَتْ مَاحَوْلَهُو = "Ma-tha-lu Hum Ka Ma-tha-lil-La-dzis-taw-qo-da Na~rof~Fa Lam~ma~~ A-dho~~at Ma~ Haw-la Hu~", "Ma-tha-lu" = An example, "Hum" = they, "Ka" = like, "Ma-tha-li" = a maxim, "al-La-dzi~" = who, "is-taw-qo-da" = to kindle, "Na~ron" = fire, "Fa" = then, "Lam~ma~" = after, "A-dho~~at" = to light, "Ma~" = what is, "Haw-la" = around, "Hu~" = it,
ذَهَبَ اُللهُ بِنُورِهِمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِى ظُلُمَتِ لَّا يُبْصِرُونَ = "DZa-ha-bal-Lohu Bi Nu~ri Him Wa Ta-ro-ka Hum Fi~ ZHu-lu-ma~til-La~ Yubb-shi-ru~~n". "DZa-ha-ba" = take away, "Al-Lohu" = Allah, "Bi" = by, "Nu~ri" = light, "Him" = their, "Wa" = and, "Ta-ro-ka" = to leave, "Hum" = them, "Fi~" = in, "ZHu-lu-ma~tin" = darkness, "La~" = do not, "Yubb-shi-ru~na" = they see.
"Ma-tha-lu Hum Ka Ma-tha-lil-La-dzis-taw-qo-da Na~rof~Fa Lam~ma~~ A-dho~~at Ma~ Haw-la Hu~ DZa-ha-bal-Lohu Bi Nu~ri Him Wa Ta-ro-ka Hum Fi~ ZHu-lu-ma~til-La~ Yubb-shi-ru~~n". = As an example, they are like people who kindle a fire, when they have lit a fire, it lighted all around it/the place, Allah takes away/puts their light out leaving them in darkness that they cannot see anything. (The fire they kindle is likened the Quran which is like a torch, which gives out light/guidance. They learnt and studied the Quran to enlighten their way of life. But because they are unable to leave behind their past and old habits and to forget about them in order to observe the Islamic requirements, they put aside the light of the Quran. Thence, Allah puts out the light of the Quran  they have lit, thus they go back to their original lives in darkness and are unable to see the Truth).
(18) صُمٌّ بُكْمٌ عُمْىٌ فَهُمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ = "SHum~mum~Buk-mun 'Um-yunf~Fa Hum La~ Yarr-ji-'u~~n". "SHum~mum" = Deaf, "Buk-mun" = dumb, " 'Um-yun" = blind, "Fa" = then, "Hum" = they, "La~" = do not, "Yarr-ji-'u~na" = they return.
"SHum~mum~Buk-mun 'Um-yumf~Fa Hum La~ Yarr-ji-'u~~n". = (These unbelievers who are also hypocrites are indeed liken the) Deaf, dumb and blind (persons), but they will never want to return (to the Truth and to repent).
(19) (to be continued).
                                  oooo000oooo
Let us continue to look into the Basic Islamic Rules:
 (2) Solat: After knowing the time of solat, and after taking the Wudhuu, and the body, garment and place of solat are free from Najis/defilement and having the 'Awrat covered accordingly, and stand on the feet facing the Qiblat, we resolve the Niyat/intent (some Ulama consider Niyat is not a Rukun/principle element of solat but is a Syarat/condition, requirement. This Niyat is not decreed by Allah nor the Prophet s.a.w. but is from the opinion of the Ulama. We shall explain more in the the next session), (ii) Then we perform Tak-bi~rotul-Ih-rom/exclamation of prohibition, uttering, "Al-Lohu Ak-bar": This is based on the Hadith reported by Ali r.a. who said, "The Prophet s.a.w. said, " The "Mif-tah"/key or openner to solat is the wudhuu, its "Tahrim"/beginning of prohibition is to exclaim the Takbir/exclamation of Allahu Akbar = Allah is Great, and its "Tahlil"/breaking up is to make salam: "As-salamu alaikum wa Roh-matullohi wa Baro-ka~tuh". (narrated by Asy-Syafiei, Ahmad, Abu Daud, Ibnu Majah and Tirmidzi who said that this Hadith is the most authentic and the best, so did Hakim and Ibnu Sikkin).
There are (a) the Hadith reported by Abu Humeid, narrated by Ibnu Majah which was confirmed by Ibnu Khuzaimah and Ibnu Hibban, and (b) another Hadith from Ali r.a. reported by Bazzar, narrated by Muslim, and also (c) the Hadith narrated by Tibroni, all these Hadith confirming about this "Takbirotul-Ihrom i.e.  exclaiming, "Allohu Akbar".
When "Allohu Akbar" is exclaimed, we are prohibited to do all our usual things, such as, talking, singing, uttering words (other than verses of the Quran, doa, dzikir/words in praise of Allah, and so forth that were taught by the Prophet s.a.w.),  breaking wind, eating, drinking and what ever, that we always do.
{ In school, we were taught to resolve Niyat while/together with exclaiming Takbirotul-Ihrom, "Allohu Akbar". This is in accordance with the Syafieiah). But in this book , "Fikh As-Sunnah", nor in the other books including the Bulughul- Maram, there is no report from any Hadith concerning resolving Niyat while saying, "Allohu Akbar". Thence, I had long stopped resolving the Niyat while saying the Takbirotul-Ihrom, but resolve the Niyat just before saying "Allohu Akbar" which is in accordance with the opinion of Hanafiah, Malikiah and Hambaliah}.
(iii) To Stand Upright In Solat Fardhu: (to be continued).
Until we meet again in the next session, see you all Quran Lovers later.

But when they are alone with their evil ones/their clique, they will say, "Truly, we are with you. We were just mocking (the believers)."

"Al-Lohu" = Allah, "Yas-tah-zi-u" = mock, "Bi Him" = with them, "Wa" = and, "Ya-mud-du" = prolong, leave, "Hum" = them, "Fi~" = in, "Tugh-ya~ni" = tyranny, "Him" = their, "Yaa-ma-hu~na" = they stray, wander about.
"Al-lohu Yas-tah-zi-u Bi Him Wa Ya-mud-du Hum Fi~ Tugh-ya~ni Him Yaa-ma-hu~~n". = Allah will (return) their mockery, and will leave them to stray and to wander about aimlessly (without His guidance) in their tyranny/cruelty (to the believers).

(17) (to be continued).
                             oooo000oooo
Let us now continue to look into the Basic Islamic Rules:
 (2) Solat:
    (i) Niyat/to intend: means the intention of doing/performing a deed/action in the hope that Allah will be pleased, and that His Rule is being observed.
The Niyat is an act of the heart which has nothing to do with "Laf-zah"/words of mouth, and uttering it is not a Syariah/decree. The obligation to Niyat is based on the Hadith reported by Umar r.a. who said, " The Prophet s.a.w. said, "Truly, the will/intent for the deed = all actions require/are with the intention, and truly, each person will gain what he intended..." (narrated by the Group).
And Allah says in surah 98 Al-Baiyinah verse 5, "And they are commanded only to worship Allah , keeping the religion sincerely".
To utter the Niyat in words of mouth, Ibnu Qoiyim in his book, "Ighothatil Lahfan", says, "Niyat means to purposely and to strongly desire to do/perform something. It is in the heart/mind and it has nothing to do whatsoever with words of mouth. There is none from the Prophet s.a.w., nor from his companions r.a. reporting about "Laf-zah Niyat"/uttering the intent. Those man-made Niyat in words of mouth at the beginning of taking Wudhuu and at the beginning of performing solat has been made by the satan as a struggling arena where people filled with doubt are being held back and are being tortured there, and are pursuing for perfection in their Niyat. Thence, we can see them repeat over and over again in pains to utter the Niyat, while it is not required to do in solat".
(ii) Takbiratul-Ihrom/exclamation of prohibition, "Al-Lohu Ak-bar": (to be continued).
Until we meet again in the next session, see you all Quran Lovers soon'

Let us now continue to look into the Basic Islamic Rules:
 (2) Solat: The  'Awrat/modesty Of A Slave Girl And That Of A Free Woman (out side solat):
In the Fifth year of Hijrah, Allah commanded the wives of the Prophet r.a. and all women Believers to use "hijab"/veil = piece of material which is neither thin nor transparent so as to fall over the head and shoulder, and its hem covers the bosom.   Allah says in surah 33 Al-Ahzab, verse 59, "O Prophet (Muhammad), tell your wives and your daughters and the the women of the believers to draw their "Jilbab"/(a flowing/hanging loose outer garment which binds the head and the hem is drawn over her bosom, or a veil) to cover up her body (and their ornaments)".
Allah also commanded in surah Al-Ahzab, verse 53, "...and when you (believers) ask them/the wives of the Prophet r.a., and the women believers, for anything, ask them from a "hijab"/screen. This is more chaste for your hearts and for their hearts."
Hijab/screen here means three things: (i) a curtain, a drape and so forth, (ii) a "Muhrim"/unlawful to marry such a family member, a woman friend and so forth. This "Muhrim" is the "Hijab"/screen which Allah commanded in this verse, and (iii) a properly clothed as mentioned in the above mentioned verse.]
SOLAT = Its Fardhu/obligatory duty To Be Performed: (to be continued).

(10) (to be continued).
                           oooo000oooo
Let us now continue to look into the Basic Islamic Rules:
 (2) Solat: The 'Awrat Of A Slave Girl And That Of A Free Woman (outside solat):
Let us look into surah 24, An-Nur verses 31: " And say to all Muslima~t/Women Believers that they must lower their gaze (from looking at a man's 'awrat i.e. his part of body between his navel and his knees). And keep guard their private parts (cover them up and must not show them to others, and do not commit adultery), and they must not display their beauty and ornaments except those ordinarily apparent (that is their their faces and palms). And they must lower/draw their veils over/cover their bosoms, and do not display their beauty except to their husbands, or their masters (of the slave girls), or their fathers, or their husbands' fathers, or their sons, or their husbands' sons, or their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves they own, or male servants who have no sexual desire, or small children who have no knowledge of what sex is. And they must not stamp their feet so as to attract attention to their hidden ornaments/anklets. And (O Believers!) turn to Allah in repentance that all of you may succeed."
This above mentioned verse explains the duty/responsibility of women Believers to cover their heads and hide/cover their physical beauty and also their ornaments they wear from the gaze and from the unlawful peoples' eyesights.
Surah 33 Al-Ahzab, verse 53, Allah says," (to be continued).

خَتَمَ اُللهُ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ وَعَلَى سَمْعِهِمْ = "KHo-ta-mal-Lohu 'A-la~ Qu-lu~bi Him Wa 'A-la~ Sam-'i Him". "KHo-ta-ma" = Affixed a seal, "Al-Lohu" = Allah, " 'A-la~" = on, to, "Qu-lu~bi" = hearts, "Him" = their, "Wa" = and, " 'A-la~" = to, "Sam-'i" = hearings, "Him" = their.

وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ = "Wa La Hum 'A-dza~bun 'A-zhi~~m".  "Wa" = And. "La Hum" = to them, " 'A-dza~bun" = torment,                    " 'A-zhi~mun" = great, grievous.
"Wa La Hum 'A-dza~bun 'A-zhi~~m" = and to them will be grievous torment (in the Hereafter).
(8) (to be continued).
                             oooo000oooo
Let us now continue to look into the Basic Islamic Rules:
 (2) Solat: The 'Awrat of A Slave Girl And That Of A Free Woman (outside solat):
The multitude Ulama are of the opinion that the 'Awrat/modesty of a slave girl or woman is the same as that of a male, i.e. between the navel and the knees. The Imams, among others, who were of this opinion were Malik, Asy-Syafiei and Ahmad and Abu Hanifah. Ibnu Sirin said, "Ummul Walad/a slave girl made the mother of his/(the master of the girl's) son by her master, usually covers her head."
But according to Ibnu Abdil Barr in his Al-Istidzkaar explained: "The 'Awrat of a slave girl is the same as that of a free woman except for her hair. Thus, the slave girls in Hijaz/West Arabia region expose their heads."
Imam Ibnu Hazm, in "Al-Muhalla" says, "To differentiate the 'Awrat of a free woman from that of a slave is to divide the Religion, while the religion of Allah is one. The creation of a female/woman is the same, be she a slave or a free woman. If we were to say that  verse 31 in surah 24 An-Nur, Allah says, " and do not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers," is an order for the free women only, is without doubt, a lie, because the word "Ba'al" in the verse,  means husband or lord/master/ owner, and it does not mean only husband.
We would like to explain about the way women should cover their 'Awrat outside solat as commanded by Allah in surah 24 verse 31, and in surah 33 al-Ahzab verse 53.
Surah 24 verse 31, Allah says: (to be continued).
Until we meet again in the next session, see you all Quran Lovers later.

"Wa Am~ma~ Man KHof-fat Ma-wa~zi~nuh". = And as for those whose weight (of goodness done, on the balance) is light.

صدق الله العظيم = True were the Words of Allah the Most Great.
Insya Allah, in the next session, we shall recite surah 2 Al-Baqoroh, starting from verse 6. This surah is the synopsis of the Religion of Islam.
                          oooo000oooo
Let us now continue to look into the Basic Islamic Rules:
  (2) Solat: The 'Awrat/modesty of a woman/ of aged female, and of a slave girl:
Imam Ahmad ibnu Hanbal said: " (The 'Awrat/modesty of a woman/an of age, or had a wet dream, or/and has menses female is) Her whole body, and is Wajib/obligatory on her to cover it when performing solat".
Imam Abu Hanifah and his followers said, "When a woman performs solat with a quarter (part) of her hair exposed, or with a third or a quarter (part) of her abdomen/belly or a third, her solat is insufficient. If her hair or her belly were exposed less than what had been mentioned above, were not considered as insufficient".
Abu Hanifah and Ahmad were of the opinion that if the 'Awrat were exposed a little in the solat, her solat were not spoilt.
Abu Hanifah also said that if her major 'Awrat were exposed about the size of a "dirham"/coin, or were less than a quarter of the 'Awrat, her solat were not spoilt.
Ahmad adhered to the Hadith narrated by Abu Daud and to the Hadith reported by Ashim Al-Ahwal which was narrated by Abu Daud and An-Nasa'i. Both of these Hadith allowed a little exposed part of the 'Awrat in the solat and it does not spoil the solat. And he/Ahmad did not allow the limit set by Abu Hanifah because there is no clarification. Ahmad did not differentiate between the large and the little (part of the 'Awrat exposed). He left it to one's              " 'Urufi"/customary.
At-Tamimi said, "If the 'Awrat were exposed for one second and closed for one second, the solat needed not to be reperformed."
As-Syafiei considered a solat is spoilt should the 'Awrat be exposed even a little.
Ahmad was of the opinion that if the 'Awrat were unintentionally being exposed and it were quickly being covered up, the solat were not spoilt.
The 'Awrat Of  A Slave Girl And That Of A Free Woman (Outside Solat): (to be continued).
Until we meet again in the next session. See you all Quran Lovers later

(6) (to be continued).
                               oooo000oooo
Let us now continue to look into the Basic Islamic Rules:
  (2) Solat: [The 'Awrat/modesty of a woman/female of age and the 'Awrat/modesty of a slave girl:
Ibnu 'Umar r.a. said, " The Prophet s.a.w. said,"Whosoever drags his/her garment with a feeling of conceited, haughty, will not be looked at by Allah in the Hereafter". Ummu Salamah asked, "How may the women do with the hem of their garments?" The Prophet s.a.w. replied, "Lower them to about a span/about 20 cm (from their feet)". Ummu Salamah said, "If so, it would expose the feet when walking." The Prophet s.a.w. then replied, "Then, lower it/the hem to about an arm's length/45 cm., and not more than that". (narrated by An-Nasa'i and Tirmidzi).
{Since I was a young boy, I have observed men performed/ performing solat, some with their sarong lifted high up to their calves, and some with their pants rolled up to their calves. It is believed that they have misunderstood the meaning of this Hadith or were misinformed.}.
At-Tirmidzi said, "Most Ulama were of the opinion that a woman/ an of age female, Wajib to cover her hair when performing solat. If some of the hair were exposed, it would spoil her solat."
Al-Khoththabi said, " The Ulama had differences of opinions about the extent of the 'Awrat of a woman to be covered when solat".
