Sign of the Quran 19

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم
Assalamu alaikum w. w. Dear Quran lovers,
We have looked into the Syaddah sign, now we shall look into the مد = Madd sign:
مد = Madd means long vowel. They are (1) آ = aa, (2) إِي = ii, (و  أُو (3 = uu.
Madd Alif = آ = aa or a~ e.g. بَا = Baa or Ba~, تَا = Taa or Ta~.
Madd Ya = جِي = Jii or Ji~, حِي = H*ii or H*i~, خِي = KHii or KHi~.
Madd Waw = دُو = Duu or Du~, ذُو =DZuu or DZu~, رُو = Ruu or Ru~.
Note: Madd is when a letter is a vowel followed by either ا, or ي/ى or و , the ا,ى,و are unmarked. و when at the end of a word is alway be accompanied by اْ e.g. عَهَدُواْ . The Alif is just an extra letter, useless and is not pronounced.
(2) the Madd is pronounced with a length of 2 "harakah" = movements or "beats" = dah dum, or more, depending to the Rule of Tajwid.
(3) Madd or Long Vowels are Alif = "aa", Ya = "ii" and Waw = "uu": When there is a below sign letter before an unmarked/silent Ya, e.g قِيلَ = Qof below with unmarked/silent Ya is "Qii" a Madd, Lam above is "La" = "Qi~la".
 (b) When there is a front sign letter before an unmarked/silent Waw e.g. يَقُولُ = Ya above is "Ya", Qof front with silent Waw is "Quu" a Madd, Lam front is "Lu" = "Yaqu~lu".
(c) When there is an above sign letter before an unmarked Alif  e.g. قَالَ  = Qof above with Alif is "Qoo" a Madd, Lam above is "La" = "Qo~la".
Madd is divided into 2 forms (1) مد أصلى = Madd Ashli = Basic Madd/long vowel, it is also called Madd T*obi-`ii = Normal Madd and (2) مد فرعى = Madd Far-`ii = Secondary Madd.
(1) Madd Ashli is when the immediate letter of the Madd is not a Hamzah, ء, or a letter with a sukun, ْ /silent sign, or a Shaddah, ّ  , double sign , the Madd is a Madd Ashli or Basic Madd and it is pronounced to the length of 2 harakah/beats = dah dum.
                                      oooo000oooo
We have seen two of the special functions of the letter Alif, as a Madd, and as an extra useless letter after the Madd Waw.
Its third function is as an "alif lam taarif" = ال تعريف = definite article = اُل = "al" means "the" in English, which is written in front of a noun and is joined to it, e.g. اُلرحمان =اُل+رحمان = The Compassionate.
There are 3 forms of   ال :      when begin to recite a verse, the ال is always be pronounced as "Al" and nothing else even though the Alif is marked with a tiny head of a SHod = اُ = صـ .
(2) when the Lam لْ is silent Lam, it is spelt as Alif above with silent Lam = "Al" as in اُلْحَمْدُ = Al-H*amdu."
(3) when the Lam ل is unmarked but the letter next to it is and with a Syaddah/double, it is spelt as اُلرَّحْمَان Alif above and double Ro is "Ar", Ro above with silent H*a is "Roh*", Mim above with Alif is "Ma~"n.
                                 oooooooooo00000ooooooooooo
Kita lihat pula sambungan makna Nama Allah ke 92: اُلنَّافِع = An-Na~fii = Yang Maha Pemberi kemanfaatan = meratalah kebaikan yang dikurniakanNya itu kepada semua hamba dan negeri.
(English) = The Great Utilitarian = distributes evenly the goodness He bestowa to all His bondservants and to all countries.
Until we meet sgain, see you all later. Wassalamu alaiku w. w.
                                               ooooooooooooo0000oooooooooooooo
