Recitation 347.2

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
ألسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Dear Quran Lovers,
Today, we are in the third day of fasting. Yesterday, I was overcome by sleepiness, so I had to entertain it. Sleeping during fast is considered an 'Ibadah/piety. I cannot find the Hadith about it. But I heard it from my teachers in school.
I believe some of you, Quran Lovers, might ask when do I "Tadaras"/read the Quran? We were asked by the Prophet s.a.w. to recite Dzikir/Tasbih, Tahmid, Takbir, Sholawat upon the Prophet s.a.w. and recite the Quran, such as the AlFatihah, the Ayat Kursi, and some other verses and the 3 Qul, after performing Solat Fardhu, and it is my usual practice. Ever since I was a boy, during the month of Ramadan, the Fasting Month and the Month that the Quran was revealed, I had recited the Quran from the first surah, AlFatihah, from day one of Ramadan, after Solat 'Asar until the end of the Month, and I could finish reciting a large part of the Quran. Then I would countine to recite the remaining surah during other months after the Ramadan each year.
For those who are not able to recite the Quran just yet, we can recite the short surah but repeat them, 3 or 5 or 7 or 11 times each. That will earn us a handsome reward from Allah. Or we can listen and follow the Quran CD or VCD. Never mind if we are incorrect in the recitation, because to Allah, it is our sincerity to and our friendly to Him that count.
Let us now continue to look into the things which are permissible during fasting:
(v) "Hajam"/to cup, a minor operation of drawing blood through the skin by sucking up by a glass cup over the area. (narrated by Bukhori and others).
(vi) To rinse the mouth and the nose as long as it is not over done. (narrated by the People of Hadith). To drop medicine into the nose, in the opinion of many Ulama, is Makruh/detestible. Some even said it spoils the fast.
(vii) Things that are impossible to be avoided, such as swallowing sputum/saliva, dust, flour or fine powder made from grain which is flying in the air, phlegm, and so forth.
Ibnu 'Abbas said, "It is permissible to taste food or thing that will be bought". Hasan used to chew coconut for his grandson while he was fasting. Ibrahim considered it as a "Rukh-shoh"/relief, as long as the thing does not enter into the stomach.
(viii) (to be continued).
Until we meet again in the next session, see you all Quran Lovers later.
والسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Abdul Hamid Mohd Yusof.
