ألسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Dear Quran Lovers,
Let us continue to recite surah 2 Al-Baqoroh (synopsis of Islam). Please refer to the text:
أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الر جيم
O = An eight angles star = the beginning of a section sign.
Yas-a-lu~na Ka 'A-nil-A-hil-lah". "Yas-a-lu~na" = They ask, "Ka" = you, " 'A-ni" = about, "al-A-hil-la-ti" = the crescent, new moon.
"Yas-a-lu~na Ka 'A-nil-A-hil-lah" = They asked you (O Muhammad) about the crescent/new moon".
صلى = a Waqof Jaiz sign.
قُلْ هِىَ مَوَقِيتُ لِلنَّاسِ وَاُلْحَجِّ = "Qul Hi-ya Ma-wa~qi~tu Lin~Na~si Wal-Hajj". "Qul" = say, "Hi-ya" = she, it is, "Ma-wa~qi~tu" = fixed time, "Li" = for, "an~Na~si" = the mankind, Wa" = and, "al-Haj-ji" = the Hajj/pilgrimage.
"Qul Hi-ya Ma-wa~qi~tu Lin~Na~si Wal-Hajj". = Say, "It is (a sign indicating the) time for mankind and (for performing) the Hajj.
قلى = a Waqof Jaiz sign.
(The Hadith from Ibnu Abbas reported that the Prophet s.a.w. was asked by the people about the crescent/new moon. Then Allah s.w.t. revealed this verse that the crescent is that they can know the time to pay their debt, their wives' monthly period, and the time to fast in the month of Ramadan, the time to celebrate the Feast of Breaking the Ramadan Fast, and the time to perform the Hajj rites" (narrated by Al-'Aufi).
Hajj is the fifth and the last principle element of the Pillars of Islam.
The Hajj is obligatory on the Muslimin who are free men, rational, of age and are able to perform it, once in their whole lives time. It is to visit and perform the Hall rites in the Sacred Mosque in Mecca and other performances in accordance with the Hajj rites.
Abdul Razaq narrated from Ibnu 'Umar who said that the Prophet s.a.w. said, "Allah created the crescent as a time fixed for mankind. Thus, when you see it/the crescent (after sunset), you fast, and break the fast when you see it (again the next month/Syawwal). If the weather is bad (you cannot see the crescent), then complete the fast making it 30 days".
In this modern world, most Muslim worlds, including Malaysia, use both, the "Ruu-yah"/new moon sighting method as well as the "Hisab"/calculation of the revolution of the moon round the earth. If the moon cannot be sighted because of the clouds and so forth, but according to the the calculation, the new moon should be sighted and it is in accordance with the Rules determined by the Multitude Theologians, then it is adapted by the Islamic Authority of the land.).
(to be continued).
Until we meet again in the next session, see you all Quran Lovers later.
والسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Abdul Hamid Mohd Yusof.
