ألسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Dear Quran Lovers,
Let us continue to recite surah 2 Al-Baqoroh (synopsis of Islam). Please refer to the text:
"Wa" = And, "Qo~ti-lu~" = to battle, fight, "Fi~" = in, for, "Sa-bi~li" = way, cause of, "Al-Lohi" = Allah, "al-La-dzi~na" = who, "Yu-qo~ti-lu~na" = they fight, attack, "Kum" = you (pl.), "Wa" = and, "La~" = do not, "Taa-ta-du~" = you (pl.) exceed the limits, transgress.
"Wa Qo~ti-lu~ Fi~ Sa-bi~lil-Lahil-La-dzi~na Yu-qo~ti-lu~na Kum Wa La~ Taa-ta-du~".  =  And fight for the cause of Allah against those who attack you, but do not transgress.
ج = a Waqof Jaiz sign.
إِنَّ اُللهَ لَا يُحِبُ اُلْمُعْتَدِينَ = "In~nal-Loha La~ Yu-hib-bul-Muu-ta-di~~n".  "In~na" = Truly, "Al-Loha" = Allah, "La~" = do not, "Yu-hib-bu" = love, like, "al-Muu-ta-di~na" = the transgressors.
"In~nal-Loha La~ Yu-hib-bul-Muu-ta-di~~n".  Truly, Allah do not love/like those who transgress.
( In the sixth year of Hijrah, the Prophet s.a.w. and his followers went to Mecca from Medina to perform Hajj. They were blocked and prevented from entering Mecca by the Pagan Meccans. The Prophet s.a.w. talked to the Meccans into making an agreement called "The Truce of Al-Hu-dai-biyyah" allowing the Prophet s.a.w. and or his s.a.w. followers to enter Mecca to perform Hajj and nothing else for three days only the next year and the years after that.
Then in the next year, the Prophet s.a.w. and his s.a.w. followers, 1,500 strong, in the month of Dzulqo'idah went to Mecca to perform the Hajj. But they were worried that the Pagan Arabs in Mecca might broke their promises, refusing to let them enter Mecca and might attack them instead. The Prophet s.a.w. and his s.a.w. followers were not keen to do battle during that Sacred month and at the Sacred land. Thus, Allah revealed this verse, "Fight for the cause of Allah against those who attack you".  Abu Jaafar ar-Rozi narrated from Robii ibnu Anas from Abul 'Aliyah who said, "This is the first verse revealed about making battle, in Medina. Then the Prophet s.a.w. attacked back those people who had attacked him s.a.w. and fought to defence against those who attacked him s.a.w. and his s.a.w. followers.".
The verse, "But do not transgress, truly, Allah do not love/like those who transgress" means do not exceed the limits in the fighting/ battle. Al-Hasan Al-Bashri explained, "To exceed the limits means to torture, to cheat and deceit, to murder women folks (young or old), children, and old folks who are weak in their minds and are unable to defence themselves, the scholars, the inhabitants of places of worship, to burn down trees and vegetations, and to kill the animals without any need/not for food".
From Buraidah who said that the Prophet s.a.w. said, "Fight for the cause of Allah. Fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Fight but do not exceed the limits, do not break promises, do not execute tortures, do not kill the children, and do not kill the inhabitants of any place of worship". (narrated by Muslim).
From Ibnu 'Umar who said, "We found a woman killed in a battle, then the Prophet s.a.w. said, "Do not kill women and childern (in any battle)".
Imam Ahmad narrated from Ribii ibnu Hirasy who said, "I have heard Hudzaifah said that the Prophet s.a.w. had given us several examples, one, three, five, seven, nine and eleven. Then he gave one example, said, "There was  nation of people who were weak and poor. They were attacked by a strong and full of hatred nation. But Allah had helped the weak and poor nation that they had defeated the strong opposing nation. When that weak and poor nation had won the battle, they became cruel and had oppressed their defeated opponents, which caused Allah to be angry with them/the weak and poor nation until the Day of Judgment."
Muslimin, we must take this verse to heart.).
(191) (to be continued).
Until we meet again in the next session, see you all Quran Lovers later.
