Dear Quran Lovers,
Let us continue to look into the Rites For Umra:
Reciting The Talbiyah/response:
When we arrive at our Miqot Makani (our leader/guide will inform us when we reached there), we resolve in our hearts and also recite the Niat: "I resolve to perform Umra". Then we shall recite the Talbiyah. The Talbiyah is in respond to the call made by Prophet Abraham a.s. after he a.s. and his son, Prophet Ismail/Ishmael a.s. had finished rebuilding the Caaba. Allah s.w.t. said, (as in verse 27 of surah 22 Al-Hajj), "Wa Adz-DZinf~Fin~Na~si Bi-Hajj" = (And call out to mankind to perform the Hajj). Ibnu Abbas and many others said that when Prophet Abraham a.s. was asked by Allah s.w.t. to call out to mankind to perform the Hajj, said, "O Allah, how am I to call out to all mankind while my voice will not be able to reach them all?" Allah s.w.t. said, "You call out and I will convey". Then Abraham a.s. stood on his Maqom/standing stone and called, "O mankind! Your Lord had built a House, so come and perform the Hajj!". It was said that the mountains bowed, and his a.s. voice was heard by all over the earth, and Allah s.w.t. conveyed his a.s. call to the foetus in their mothers' wombs, and those that were still in their fathers' loins. The callwas heard by all, including the stones, the sand, the trees, the plants, and whosoever (in their spiritual world) that Allah s.w.t. had written (in the Louh al-Mahfuzh/Preserved Tablet) that they will perform the Hajj until the Doomsday, had responded by uttering, "Labbai Kal-Lohumma Labbaik!"
Thus, we are repeating the respond that we had made when we were in our spiritual world when we heard the call by Prophet Abraham a.s.
We shall recite the Talbiyah until we reach our Maktab/hotel in Mecca.
(A) On our way to Mecca, if we see anything that is spectacular to us or of our interest, it is Sunnah to recite:
" لَبَّيْكَ, إِنَّ اُلْعَيْشَ عَيْشُ اُلْآخِِرَةِ = "Lab-bai Ka. In~nal-'Ai-sya 'Ai-syul-A~khi-roh" = ( Here I am at Your service! Truly the true mode of living is the living in the Hereafter). (from Mujahd, narrated by Asy-Syafiei).
(B) When we see many beautiful houses with beautiful windows, denotes that we have reached Al-Harom/the Forbidden/Sacred city of Mecca, and also when we have arrived Mecca city itself, it is Sunnah to recite:
اللَّهُمَّ هَذَا حَرَمُكَ = "Al-Lohum~ma Ha~dza~ Ha-ro-mu Ka" = (O Allah, this is You Harom/Sacred (the place that You have protected),
وَاَمَانُكَ = "Wa A-ma~nu Ka" = ( and the place You have secured peace),
فَحَرِّمْنِى عَلَى النَّارِ = "Fa Har-rim Ni~ 'A-lan~Na~r" = (Thus, prohibit me from the Fiery Hell),
وَاَمِّنِّى مِنْ عَذَابِكَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ = "Wa A-min~ni~ Min 'A-dza~bi Ka Tabb-'a-thu 'I-ba~dak" = ( and protect me from Your torment on the Day You resurrect Your bondservants),
وَاجْعَلْنِى مِنْ أَوْلِيَآءِكَ وَأَهْلِ طَاعَتِكَ = "Waj-'al Ni~ Min Aw-li-ya~~i Ka Wa Ah-li To~'a-tik". = (and make me (one) of Your friends and of a person of fidelity).
(C) When we have arrived at our Maktab/hotel, we shall be told by the person in charge, when we shall go the Masjul-Harom and to perform the Rites For Umra. Rest. And before leaving for the Masjidul-Harom, take Wudhu, because one of the conditions to perform Towaf, Solat and Sa'i, we must be clean of defilement.
(D) When going to the Masjidul-Harom, it is good to bring along (i) the Book of Doa during Towaf, when drinking the ZamZam water, and during Sa'i and so forth. We might not hear clearly what our guide/mutawif reads out. (ii) A plastic bag to keep our slippers when in the Mosque.
Recite Talbiyah while walking to the Mosque.
(E) When Entering The Masjidul-Harom: (to be continued).
Until we meet again in the next session, see you all Quran Lovers later.
والسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Abdul Hamid Mohd Yusof.
